Traumnovelle Still 1

With his adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler's "Traumnovelle" (Dream Story) filmmaker Florian Frerichs boldly tackles a cinematic reinterpretation of a novel whose fame largely stems from Stanley Kubrick's 1990s film "Eyes Wide Shut." Frerichs' "Traumnovelle" (Dream Story) starring Nikolai Kinski and Laurine Price in the lead roles, will have its world premiere, opening the Oldenburg International Film Festival on September 11th.

The world premiere of Florian Frerichs' adaptation of Schnitzler's "Traumnovelle" (Dream Story) will ceremoniously open the Oldenburg International Film Festival on September 11th.

Nikolai Kinski and Laurine Price portray Jacob and Amelia, a married couple whose seemingly stable life is upended when Jacob uncovers that a stranger has been the center of his wife’s secret fantasies. Driven to explore his own suppressed desires, Jacob embarks on a journey. Over the course of one fateful night, the carefully constructed façade of their bourgeois existence begins to unravel, exposing the repressed passions and unspoken longings beneath.

Stanley Kubrick introduced broad audiences to Schnitzler's world of eroticism and bourgeois life through Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman as a New York upper-class couple in 1999. Florian Frerichs revisits the story with his second feature film, this time set in the nocturnal streets of Berlin and staying closer to Schnitzler’s work. Starring Nikolai Kinski and Laurine Price, and featuring a notable cast including Detlev Buck, Bruno Eyron, rising talent Nora Islei, and special appearances by Sharon Brauner and Sharon Kovacs, Frerichs presents an ambitious, independently produced cinematic work.

The film will be released in German cinemas by Apollo Film in early 2025. "Traumnovelle" (Dream Story) was produced by Warnuts Entertainment and Studio Babelsberg.

We are thrilled to welcome Florian Frerichs along with additional cast and crew members to Oldenburg. Lead actors Nikolai Kinski and Laurine Price are going to join director Florian Frerichs on the red carpet at the opening gala at Cinemaxx, alongside Sharon Brauner, Nora Islei, and many more.

"Traumnovelle" (Dream Story) will ceremoniously open the festival on September 11th.
