What would a zoo be without animals? A park. But what a zoo would be without visitors one would actually have to ask the animals living there – and this is exactly what Andreas Horvath‘s extraordinary documentary film does which he shot in the spring of 2020 when Covid-19 paralyzed public life. Filmed entirely at the Salzburg Zoo and without commentary »Zoo Lock Down« focuses on the monkeys, bears, lions and crocodiles that have never known life without an audience – and often seem to wonder where the visitors have gone. Horvath masterfully captures their behavior and expressions. This can lead to almost surreal scenes as they re-explore their now almost deserted domicile. A unique documentary masterpiece of sad beauty - minimalist, captivating and mesmerizing.
