Three Infallible Rules

14-year-old Bruno is in love with Flavia, which becomes a huge problem when he realizes that she likes him back. Unsure what to do next, he turns to his archenemy: his mother’s boyfriend Luca, whom he blackmails into teaching him about matters of the heart. An unlikely friendship ensues between the pupil
and his teacher as both have to figure out the greatest mystery of them all: how to win and keep the heart of the woman you love. Writer-director Marco Gianfreda’s film is a is a gentle, subtly funny exploration of the stupid things we do when love makes a surprise-appearance and turns the most rational and sober person into a desperate addict whose craving for intimacy, emotional stability and affection will not be cured by any twelve-stepprogram. »Three Infallible Rules«, offers us not, what the title suggests – the rules named during this delightful romantic drama are all but bulletproof – but a fourth one, that is not articulated, but instead expressed throughout the film: if you’re not afraid of failure in life or love, things might turn out all right.
