In Mattie Do‘s films, ghosts are omnipresent. Sometimes they seduce or threaten the living, sometimes they just stand by their side. This is also the case in her third feature. Since childhood an old man, played by Yannawoutthi Chanthalungsy, has been seeing ghosts. One of them has been accompanying him for 50 years and turned him into a hermit who prefers the company of the dead to the living. That is also why he now helps lonely and sick women by giving them death and therefore – in his mind – peace. With the constant coexistence of the living and the dead, Mattie Do once again seizes on a motive from »Chanthaly«, but also expands upon it. »The Long Walk« combines not only different worlds, but also different times. The old man can return to his childhood days and talk to his younger self. However, all his efforts to correct what has happened have unforeseeable consequences. A quite horror lives in the film‘s beautiful imagery – a horror that can do without superficial thrills and still hits home.
