In rural Japan in the 1990s, Akira makes an unsettling discovery on a riverbank, one that, out of childlike curiosity, turns into a “summer research project” with his classmates. What begins harmlessly develops an unnerving momentum of its own. Inspired by real anxieties surrounding youth crime in Japan, Yuki Hara tells of the narrow line between childlike curiosity and tragedy.
