My Darling Family

Her films circle the film industry at such a distance that she never runs the
danger of being grounded by its marketing mechanisms and rules. Isild Le
Besco is a singular voice in French cinema. Driven by pure instinct, she tells
stories that float, creates characters who cannot be forced into characteri-
zations and moments that do not depict life, but capture it. In “Ma Famille
chérie” it is above all Estelle, played by the wonderful Elodie Bouchez, the
head of this “sweet” family, who handles the lifes and the things I life of her
abusive husband Antonio, her mother, who everyone just calls “Queen”, and
her siblings. With a light hand also for the darker sides of this microcosm, Le
Besco invites us to become part of this family, and once again she succeeds
to overcome the dictates of time by her deeper understanding of the present
moment as the core of life.
