Jackrabbit

A mining accident confronts T.A. Diamond, a man accustomed to a meager, hardship-filled existence, with seemingly insurmountable challenges. Although he survives the accident, the injury to his hand renders him unable to work in 1930s Utah. Left with nothing but a pittance for a weekly wage, he finds himself stripped of the only role he has ever known. He leaves his wife and child believing his injury is merely a scratch, and sets out the next day on the path he always takes. Yet, a revolver secretly tucked away makes this day unlike any other. It won’t be the straight path to the mine and back to his home, it will rather be like that of a hare in a field - a zigzag course, the destination of which even he does not know.

Collaborating with cinematographer Corey C. Waters, whose sensitive imagery previously turned Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut into a visual triumph, Jared Hogan crafts a film that bathes the era, the people, and the stark landscape in unforgettable light. The beauty of the visuals only intensifies the pain felt by T.A., powerfully portrayed by Frank Mosley. Through tableaux reminiscent of great moments in American cinema, Hogan and Waters pay homage to legends such as John Ford and Terrence Malick.
