In a village on the Turkish Aegean, Hakki opens his stall day after day near the
ancient temple sites and sells souvenirs to tourists passing through. He has long
since given up on his dream of wealth, but then he stumbles across an artifact
from a time long gone while working in his own garden. The proceeds from this
discovery are enough to buy a car, but Hakki soon learns that his find was even
more valuable. Shaken, Hakki clings to the hope that remains to him: his garden
must hold more surprises. Thus, he begins to dig, desperately searching for
the treasure that will make him forget all his worries. But his quest becomes an
obsession and threatens to drag not only him but his whole family into the abyss.
It was just a story that was told in his hometown, but Hikmet Kerem Özcan
couldn’t let go of this topic, and for his cinema debut he put everything on one
card: his interpretation of the dream of a better life and what one is willing to
sacrifice for it captivates with the precise dissection of an idea that gets lost in
delusion - and must consequently end in a catastrophe.
