Das Glück der Tüchtigen

The life of 29-year-old Mira seems well-ordered: she has a loving husband, Tarik, two children, and, thanks to an interest-free loan from Robert, her mother’s former partner—she has just opened a supermarket. But soon after receiving the money, Tarik squanders it in a shady cryptocurrency deal. Mira begins to weave a web of lies to cover up the lost funds, and her once-stable life spirals into uncontrollable chaos, a world the bourgeois Mira is utterly unprepared to handle.
To make matters worse, Robert urges her to finally have the children baptized, something that, of course, must be kept secret from the Muslim Tarik. As Mira’s fabrications pile higher and higher, her charades inevitably collapse. Yet when her world seems to fall apart, she discovers something unexpected: a sense of freedom. For the first time, she begins to suspect that she might be closer than ever to what people usually call happiness.
