Tim Blake Nelson in a career defining role as the lonely and embittered ex-boxer
Bernard «Bang Bang« Roszyski, to whom life has dealt too many blows and, no
matter how much he would like it, fate refuses to get in the ring with him again.
Once the celebrated hero of his hometown of Detroit, he now retreats behind a
shield of aggression, self-destructiveness and bitterness.
Only when his grandson Justin moves in with him does fate seem to allow him
his big fight. Bernard realizes that the boy needs his help and that he has to pick
himself up to do what needs to be done.
Tim Blake Nelson is not only one of Hollywood‘s most distinguished character
actors, if you let him, he carries the entire film straight into the viewer‘s heart.
Vincent Grashaw did us this favor and sets this amazing stage for Nelson. How
he tries, fails, falls and gets back up is the story and heart of «Bang Bang,« a
wonderfully heartfelt, hilarious, often offensive tale of a man who put himself on
the ropes. And a reminder that those who guard against everything will forfeit
what is good in themselves and others.
