Bis zur Wahrheit

Martina, a successful surgeon, begins a flirtation with her best friend Jutta‘s
son on a family vacation on the Baltic Sea. A beach trip for two, a few joints
together and the rediscovery of the lightness of teenage life are balm for her
soul. Then there is a passionate kiss and then that one brief moment when
expectations are out of harmony. Control meets youthful Sturm und Drang.
The next morning, a few bruises on her shoulder tell of this one moment of
disagreement.
The film is at its strongest when it shows its charismatic main character ree-
ling as she re-enters the normality of orderly life. When sex with her husband
seems like an accepted rape and Martina‘s secretly clenched fist speaks of
greater pain than the bruises on the morning after the sin, »At the End of
Truth« finds a true balance. Almost like Lynch in «Blue Velvet«, Saralisa Volm
dissects the mendacity of the bourgeoisie, which suffocates their lives in a
corset of expectations.
